Bu kanserler gerek tanı gerekse tedavi açısından oldukça problem yaratmaktadırlar. Son yıllarda safra kesesi kanserlerinden daha sık görülmektedir. Ülseratif kolit ve klonorşis gibi hastalıklara eşlik edebilmektedir. %40 olguda beraberinde safra taşı tespit edilmiştir. Erkeklerde daha fazla ve 50–70 yaş grubunda görülmektedir. Otopsi serilerinde insidens %0,1–0,02 olarak verilmektedir.

Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nde yapılan çalışmalarda tiroid kanseri insidensi %0,004 olarak verilmektedir. Yine aynı ülke yılda 1 milyon kişiden 6’sı bu hastalık nedeniyle ölmektedir.
